FBI Fugitive Investigation
Saidul Hasan Chowdhury is wanted in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a minor child in Queens, New York, according to information released by the FBI. The alleged offense occurred around October 2008 but was reported to authorities in 2024. Chowdhury was arrested in May 2024 and charged under New York law before authorities say he fled the United States for Saudi Arabia after being released on bond.
Alleged Sexual Assault in Queens
The case stems from an alleged sexual assault involving a minor child in Queens in approximately October 2008. Although the alleged offense dates back more than 15 years, authorities did not receive the report until 2024. The report subsequently led to an investigation and Chowdhury’s arrest.
Following his arrest, prosecutors filed serious child sexual abuse charges against Chowdhury. The state prosecution was expected to proceed in New York following his release on bond. Authorities say he instead left the country shortly afterward.
Arrested in May 2024
Chowdhury was arrested in May 2024 following the investigation into the reported abuse. He was charged with Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree and Rape in the Second Degree, both under New York Penal Law. The charges relate to the alleged sexual abuse reported to authorities that year.
Chowdhury was subsequently released on bond while the criminal case remained pending. According to the FBI, he then fled the United States during the same month. His departure ultimately transformed the New York prosecution into an international fugitive case.
Flight to Saudi Arabia
The FBI reports that Chowdhury fled the United States for Saudi Arabia in May 2024. Authorities believe he may currently be living there. His reported departure occurred after his arrest and release on bond in connection with the New York charges.
The Saudi Arabia connection has significantly expanded the geographic scope of the search. Individuals who have encountered Chowdhury in Saudi Arabia or possess information concerning where he has lived since leaving the United States may have information relevant to investigators. Information concerning his associates, employment, travel, or residences could also assist authorities.
Federal Unlawful Flight Charge
Federal authorities subsequently became involved in the effort to locate Chowdhury. On March 10, 2025, a federal arrest warrant was issued by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York in Brooklyn. Chowdhury was federally charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
The federal warrant was issued approximately 10 months after Chowdhury reportedly left the United States. He is now wanted in connection with his alleged flight while the underlying New York child sexual assault case remains pending. Federal authorities continue seeking information that could assist in locating him.
International Search Continues
The FBI’s statement that Chowdhury may be living in Saudi Arabia makes information from outside the United States particularly relevant to the investigation. Individuals who have communicated with or encountered him since May 2024 could potentially help authorities determine his current location. Information concerning his movements after arriving in Saudi Arabia may also assist investigators.
Authorities are seeking Chowdhury so the outstanding criminal proceedings can continue through the judicial system. The sexual-assault charges described by the FBI remain criminal accusations and have not been established through a conviction. Members of the public should provide relevant information directly to law enforcement.
